Cape Cod

Cape Cod is a 70′ish-mile-long peninsula extending from southeastern Massachusetts into the Atlantic Ocean. Year-round, about 230,000 people (including me) call the Cape their home - a population that doubles in the summer. What draws all these tourists over the two bridges and onto our narrow, bottlenecked roadways? Well, we’ve got some of the best beaches in the world - especially along the Cape Cod National Seashore, a national park that stretches along the Cape’s outer shores.

Bucolic Brewster, where I live, was first settled in 1656 and was incorporated in 1803, named for Elder William Brewster, the original religious leader of the Pilgrims (and, coincidentally, one of my distant ancestors). It’s a town of 10,000-plus residents, known as the Sea Captain’s Town by its boosters, based on its background as the residence of choice for a number of 17th and 18th Century seafarers, many of whose homes have since been turned into charming B&Bs.
